'film-photo'-installation - dvd-projection - 10 min - Linda Weiss' "privacy/policy-heidegger/arendt", 2007, is a DVD transcript of excerpts from love letters between philosophers Hannah Arendt and Martin Heidegger starting in 1925, covering the period when Arendt was Heidegger’s student in Germany, through her exile in France and the United States, until her death in 1975. The love letters between Arendt, a survivor of the Holocaust and a violent critic of totalitarianism, and Heidegger, once complicit with the Nazi regime, capture a crucial part of twentieth century history, its contradictions, its problematics, and its mea culpa. As Weiss puts it, “these letters are an example of where the personal and the political meet.” (Sarina Basta, Sculpture Center NY)

| relentless structure (filmcut 2007+2008)

The starting point for the film "relentless structure" (75 min) are 9 photographs taken in an economic institution in New York. The institution serves as a database for about 8000 banks worldwide. The textual layer rolls over the picture stills like a film\\\'s end
credits.
“relentless structure“ questions the relationship between the socio-economic elites and class structures. On the one hand one can see economic institutions in New York overlain by quotations from sociological works (Pierre Bourdieu: Distinction, Pierre Bourdieu/Jean-Claude Passeron: The Inheritors, Erving Goffman: Stigma). On the other hand the textual overlay consists of quotations from the biographies of former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan (The Age of Turbulence) and political correspondent Dominic Carter (No Momma’s Boy).
Greenspan, also called the “Sphinx“, who often developed concepts for his financial policies while taking his morning bath, was the most powerful man in economy. Carter on the other hand is one of the few African Americans to make it in political broadcasting. He grew up in the Bronx as the son of a mentally ill single mother. His teachers at High School certified that he shouldn’t make the effort of going to college since he would be dead soon anyway. “relentless structure“ shows places that exemplify the embodiment of certain social and economical situations. The textual layer connects and encodes these places, revealing a kind of “social space”.

| off text (to be in the city) (2006)

"off text" consists of three parts: "recapture the feeling", "abc of existence" and "to be in the city”. Together they form the video-installation "off text". The video-installation combines personal and political thoughts in form of a textvideo with two video loops, taken from the film "Two Or Three Things I Know About Her" by Jean-Luc Godard. The two loops are shown in combination with the text video. The text is a reminder of the closing credits of the film. A woman as a metaphor of the city initiating the loss of self in man through seduction is replaced by a modern woman in love.
